Theatre Puppets Museum
In the vaulted basement of Theatre House is a museum presenting exotic shadow- and rod puppets of China and Java, beautiful Japanese doll-princess, belligerent Italian marionettes and jolly glove-puppets from Germany and England. There are also specially made “moving puppets”.
Everybody can try out the mini-stages and feel the difference between shadow-, marionette-, and glove-puppets, while being a real puppet actor. A multimedia-program introduces the theatre puppets of the world and shows clips from different puppet performances.
A mysterious tunnel leads to the far side of the basement, where a room from the medieval house awaits. The room was found during the archaeological excavations while renovating the house and it dates back to the first half of the 14th century. Besides magnificent uniquely preserved hypocaust-stove, other findings from the same room are presented as well – cannonball, potsherds, tool parts and the fragments of yet unidentified things.
